Beamglow Ltd are a luxury packaging supplier based in Huntingdonshire, with 55 years of experience in designing and supplying bespoke packaging to a range of industries.
As part of their commitment to Net Zero, they have already installed a biomass boiler and fitted LED lighting to almost all areas of the building. They have implemented both ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 and already carry out internal audits. However they are still under pressure from key customers to reduce their carbon footprint by a further 40%. They are also being asked to report their scope 3 emissions for the first time.
Support was required to re-calculate and validate the organisation's carbon footprint, identify key improvement activities and work with the management team to agree key dates for implementation.
An assessment of Beamglow’s carbon footprint revealed that the majority of CO2e emissions are from Scope 2 emissions, as their electricity consumption is considerable. They also have quite high direct transport emissions, as they own their own fleet of vehicles for logistics purposes. We helped to identify electricity reduction initiatives via analysis of half hour data and provided savings estimates to enable the team to pull together a business case for fitting solar PV systems across the site.
The output was a Net Zero Roadmap, detailing all the carbon reduction initiatives, and showing the organisations commitment over a 5 year period. We also explored the possibility of moving to HVO fuel for all diesel vehicles and offered additional assistance on possible methods to calculate scope 3 emissions.
Predicted carbon savings of almost 300tCO2e from reduced electricity usage and at least 260tCO2e from reduced transport emissions.
